Left or Right Arm Matches?

With the choice to compete using either your left or right hand, you can see the breakdown of the percentage distribution. It is distributed by hand.

In most events, there are always more right-handed matches than left. When more data is collected, I’ll be able to run more stats on how often an event contains more left-handed matches than right. Until then, right-handers still have bragging rights as the being more competitive.

Amateurs, Open, Women, and Masters

One of the great aspects of arm wrestling is its inclusivity for newcomers to the sport. The Event Director offers divisions for kids, women, and men, catering to all levels of experience. Here’s a breakdown of the number of matches in each division.

Is it surprising to see almost as many amateur participants as the open division? Give credit to Lee Bonnett for making all newcomers to the sport feel welcomed.

The Great Weight Class Debate

There’s often much debate about weight classes in arm wrestling: Should they be in pounds or kilograms? Are there too many or too few weight classes? And which weight classes are the most competitive or have the highest participation? Here’s a breakdown of the number of entries by weight class, including both pounds and kilograms.

So, there you have it—the heavyweights are clearly in control. Unfortunately, the lighter weight class at 63kg (139 pounds) doesn’t see much competition. It’s intriguing how the “in-between” weight classes, like 78kg and 86kg, tend to have more varied entries. Athletes around 180 pounds might be struggling with a decision. Should they cut weight to meet the 172-pound limit? Alternatively, they could bulk up to be more competitive in the 190 or even 210-pound classes.
